About the Temple:
Sri Huligemma Devi temple is one of the popular temples in North Karnataka dedicated to Goddess Huligemma a form of Goddess Renuka Yellamma Devi located in a village called Huligi (Munirabad). It is a temple from 13th century perched on the banks of Tungabhadra River.

Sri Huligemma Devi temple’s history dates to eight hundred years. It is believed that Huligemma Devi is an incarnation of Goddess Renuka Yellamma Devi. As per legends, two devotees of Renuka Yellamma Devi named Nagajogi and Basavajogi residing in Huligi used to visit Goddess Renuka Yellamma Devi during every full moon day. Due to heavy rains during one of the full moon days these devotees were unable to reach Yellamangudda and had to spend the entire night drenched in rain in remembrance of Yellamma Devi. Mother Shakthi appeared before her devotees Nagajogi and Basavajogi and promised to reside in their locality so that they don’t have to struggle to commute to Yellamangudda during full moon days. Hence, Devi appeared as Saligrama and Sri Chakra at Huligi.
