About the Temple:
Sri Guru Basaveshwaraswamy temple, situated in the center of Kottur town is dedicated for the worship of deity Sri Veerabhadreshwara. It is believed that the temple was built in the 5th century by King Somasekhara, the ruler of Harapanahalli. The statue of Veerabhadreshwara, the original statue of Lord Shri Guru Kottureshwara, was built after the statue of Lord Pura-god was enshrined in a statue of Lord Vishnu.
The Kotturasha Lingamala is celebrated in the month of Kartika month. During Magha Maasa, lakhs of people come to Kottur barefooted from distant towns, chanting the name of Kottureshwara to fulfill their wishes. In the Shravana Maasa, Rudrabhisheka is performed to the deity. Sri Swamiji performs Nitya Rudrabhisheka Pooja, Panchamrutha Abhisheka Puja, Ashtothara Namavalli Puja, Mahamangalarati Puja and Deepadha Puja to the deity.
About the Facility/Choultry:
Yathri Nivas of Sri Guru Basaveshwaraswamy temple has been constructed for the benefit of the devotees who visit the temple. The guest house has a total of 30 rooms. Out of these, 02 rooms are located on the ground floor, 14 rooms are located on the first floor and 14 rooms are located on the second floor. The rooms are unfurnished and have attached toilet and bathrooms facility. The tourist destinations that are near to the temple are Hampi, Tungabhadra Dam – Hospet, Anegundi and many more.
