About the Temple:
Shri Ghati Subramanya Swamy Temple, an ancient Hindu temple is one of the popular pilgrimage centres situated on the outskirts of Bangalore in Doddaballapur Taluk. It is an important centre for snake worship in south India. The temple has a history of more than 600 years. The temple was built by Ghorpade rulers of Sandur dynasty who ruled parts of Bellary. It is believed that Lord appeared in the dreams of king and revealed his whereabouts. The king with the help of the locals, discovered the self-manifested single idol of Lord Narasimha and Lord Subramanya and the temple was built around it.

The word Ghati (meaning “pot”) was derived from Sanskrit. The serpent’s hood resembles that of a pot. Lord Subramanya’s form is that of a seven-hooded snake and it is believed that this is the place where Lord Subramanya killed the demon Ghatikasura. People with sarpa dosha come here to be blessed by the lord after offering him prayers. It is also a belief of the devotees that childless couples making vows shall be blessed with children by the lord. A related ritual is that of installing idols of snakes, one can see thousands of such idols near the temple.
