About the Temple:
Sri Chamundeshwari temple is a most prominent temple in Karnataka and is considered as state Goddess by the people of Karnataka. The temple is located on the top of Chamundi hills about 13 kms from Mysuru city. Sri Chamundeshwari temple is a quadrangular structure constructed as per Dravidian style. This temple is famous not only in India but also well known in abroad. The deity of Sri Chamundeshwari Devi, the fierce form of Shakti is in a seated posture with eight shoulders, known as ‘Ashta Bhujas’. Goddess is the manifestation of Devi Parvati. She is the slayer of demons, ‘Chanda’ and Munda’ and ‘Mahishasura’. The deity is seated on a lion with a trident in her hand, which is pierced into the demon Mahisasura. This deity is very old, being established by sage Markandeya. The Goddess Chamundeshwari Devi worshiped for centuries by the Maharajas of Mysuru.

Sri Chamundeshwari temple has a great antiquity of over 1000 years. The temple is considered as one of the 18 Shakti Peethas and was known by the name ‘Krouncha Pitham’. It is believed that the hair of Goddess Sati fell at the site where the present-day temple stands. According to mythology, Mahishasura ruled on top of this hill torturing people of Mysore and hence goddess destroyed the evil forces and relieved the people.

1) Sri Raja Rajeshwari Guest House
Sri Raja Rajeshwari Guest House is present behind Mahishashura statue, next to Outpost Police Station, Chamundi Hill, Mysuru. Sri Rajarajeshwari guest house has been constructed during the year 2004 for the benefit of the devotees who come to the temple on behalf of Sri Chamundeshwari Temple, Chamundi Betta, Mysore. The guest house is 300 meter from main temple. There are 20 rooms in the guest house. The rooms in the guest house have attached toilet and bath rooms, geyser, hot water for bathing, kettle, and pure drinking water facilities.

2) Diwan Poornaiah Memorial Hall
Diwan Poornaiah Memorial Hall is present in M.G. Road, Near JSS Hospital, Mysuru - 570 004. Diwan Poornaiah Memorial Hall, one of the Mysore Palace Muzrai Group Temples belonging to Sri Chamundeshwari Group Temples, was constructed by Sri Chamundeshwari Temple on 13/02/2009. It is utilized for conducting public auspicious ceremonies. The said Chatra is at 1 km from the Mysore city bus stand, the bus service is available from 6 am to 10 pm. The Chatra has a function hall, dining hall and 9 rooms. All the 9 rooms have attached toilet and bath rooms facility, geyser, hot water for bathing, kettle, and pure drinking water facility. Dining table and chair facilities are also available in the Choultry. The Choultry charges extra for electricity, cleaning, and GST (18%).
